Reacting to the announcement by Highways England decision to bulldoze a new road through Rimrose Valley Country Park, Labour MP for Bootle, Peter Dowd, said:
“Once again this is a kick in the teeth for people in Bootle, Seaforth, Waterloo, Litherland, Netherton, Old Roan and Crosby. Virtually every community in the Bootle Constituency is affected by the shocking decision. While the Government can spend £15 billion on Crossrail One, £30 billion on Crossrail Two and £6 billion for a tunnel under the Thames - all London projects - we can’t even get a “cut and cover” tunnel option even to be considered by either the Tory Government or Highways England. I wrote to Chris Grayling, Secretary of State for Transport, three weeks ago about this issue and with his usual arrogance I haven’t even had an acknowledgement. That speaks volumes. Meanwhile he announced virtually unlimited resources for pet projects in London."
